This dental procedure involves the removal of the "soft" demineralized tooth structure using hand instruments or occasionally using the "dental drill".This procedure is completely painless, as the dentist only removes dead tooth structure. Dentists then restore (fill) the cavities with materials that promote tooth healing and release fluoride. These materials are called glass ionomers and when placed properly, they may last for several months and even years.
